YAPEN, AUGUST 28, 2024 – The prospective Regent and Deputy Regent of Kepulauan Yapen, Benyamin Arisoi and Roy Palunga, officially registered as the second candidate pair to submit their candidacy documents to the Yapen Regency General Election Commission (KPU). This registration event was marked by strong cultural nuances, reflecting deep respect for local traditions.

Hundreds of supporters gathered at the Serui City Square to attend the declaration event before they marched together towards the KPU office. With enthusiasm and energy, they were accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the tifa, a traditional drum of the Berbai tribe, adding a rich cultural atmosphere to the procession.

The Benyamin Arisoi-Roy Palunga pair arrived at the KPU office around 12:30 WIT and were greeted by young dancers from Sanggar Myobo. The dancers wore beautifully crafted costumes and performed a traditional dance representing the Kurudu people, symbolizing the lives of hunters and fishermen, as a tribute to the ancestral culture and traditions.


Before entering the KPU office, the candidates were adorned with nokens by the Secretary of KPU Yapen, a warm gesture of welcome from the Chairman and all Yapen KPU Commissioners.

At precisely 12:50 WIT, the registration documents for the Benyamin Arisoi and Roy Palunga candidacy were handed over to the Chairman of KPU Yapen and the commissioners present. The documents were then passed on to the verification team for thorough examination to ensure completeness and validity.

The Benyamin Arisoi-Roy Palunga pair is supported by the Yapen Baru Coalition, which consists of seven major political parties and one supporting party. The coalition includes PKB, DEMOKRAT, PKS, PDI, GELORA, UMMAT, and PKN.

With strong backing from the coalition and the community, Benyamin Arisoi and Roy Palunga are poised to move forward in the 2024 Regional Election, bringing new hope and vision for the Kepulauan Yapen Regency.
